How can Romanian companies use the results of the 5th plenary meeting of the Global Earth Observation in Bucharest ? How can these results help the Romanian companies win on the market in the difficult environment of these days? This was the question! – at the press conference attended by all the 4 vice-presidents of GEO-V, the representative of the host country and the secretary of GEO-V . The question came from Dragos Seuleanu, the president of EconomixNews, which produces this site. Nobody missed the opportunity to add an answer [you can either watch the conference here, or read the summary below]:
Mark Meyers, the head of the US delegation to the GEO-V plenary session in Bucharest stressed that the GEO process uses data and infrastructure that costs t – as it was announced in Bucharest, - gives the intelligent private businessmen plenty of opportunities. Google Earth is just one example.
Marius Ioan Piso, the president of the Romanian Space Agency referred to well known private companies that use GEO type of information to produce direct results in many application fields with high benefic societal effect. And there are billions of dollars of investment in spatial projects for the years to come.
Jose Achache, the director of the GEO Secretariat stressed once again the idea that it is the private business that must look for the ways of using the opportunity it is given by being granted free access to the data bases of global observation systems. One of the examples he choose is the Internet itself, and the second – the GPS. In both cases the primary intended use was by far exceeded by the commercial use private companies imagined for it.
Zoran Stancic, the deputy director general of the GD for Research in the European Commission stressed the aspect that the 50 billion euro FP7 is destined both to public and private entities.
